Your Exercise Challenge:

Include Balance Training in your daily workout!

By Bernadette Kathryn, LMT, IHLC

Balance training is an important component of a comprehensive fitness program and even more important as we age!

Keys to remember:

  • Start slowly and progress at a comfortable pace for your safety
  • Challenge yourself by your foot placement and choose appropriately for you!
  • Keep your core muscles tight and engaged for safety and support

A well designed exercise plan will include:

  • Cardiovascular Training
  • Strength Training
  • Stretching & Flexibility Training
  • And — Balance Training!

You can continually challenge yourself with creative movement and you will benefit for years to come. Work with your eyes open to begin with and then progress to closed eyes for a real challenge. You need to keep your core muscles tight to support your body with good posture and the development of stability. Make your balance training more dynamic by adding movement and working on one leg at a time, being careful to move smoothly with your core engaged.

Focus on Quality of Movement — not quantity!
