Note to self:

Don’t be afraid …

Don’t be afraid to give up the good

to go for the great.

~ John D. Rockefeller

Don’t be afraid … I have lived much of my life in fear, powered by fear and haunted by fear. Deep down I am a trusting soul and somewhere along the line, I developed a great fear of many things. I am pretty sure that I adopted the fears of my mom, she was a very loving and well-meaning mom, she worried, she cared and she ultimately wanted to protect me. Mom wanted to provide the best she could for us and keep us safe as we grew.

Parenting is definitely one of the hardest jobs on earth, we don’t come with instructions and life does not provide any guarantees. Parents can only do their best, hope for the best and pray for our protection. I admire the commitment that it takes to be a parent and I appreciate the dedication, love, and patience it took to raise us.

Courage is said to be staring adversity and fear in the face and doing the thing you are afraid of anyway! That’s brave, courageous or crazy … I guess it depends on the actual circumstances. The bottom line here is that we have lots of challenges and opportunities every day to face our fears and it’s entirely up to us as to how we approach the subject. We have the power of choice on our side, we get to choose.

What can you do today

to give up the good

to go for the great?
