Note to self:

Thinking and actions …

By Bernadette Kathryn, LMT, IHLC

Fear stifles our thinking and actions.

It creates indecisiveness that results in stagnation.

I have known talented people

who procrastinate indefinitely rather than risk failure.

Lost opportunities cause erosion of confidence,

and the downward spiral begins.

~ Charles Stanley

Fear can definitely paralyze me ~ when I am stuck in fear, I cannot make sound decisions or rational choices because fear stifles my thinking and actions. I have to talk myself off the ledge sometimes when I find that I am swirling in fear mode. I have to go to my support system of rituals and friends to help change the lens that I am looking through. And, what a blessing that is ~ to have an arsenal of success rituals that can bring me back to my courageous self! What a blessing to have a group of BFF’s that love, appreciate, and support me in such a way that when I need a reality check, they are there for me.

I am not seeking to be the best in the world, I am not seeking to have my name in lights on Broadway, I am not seeking immortality ~ I am seeking to be the best me that I can be! I am seeking to live a life that I love, to be loved by my friends and family, and to give my best to whatever it is that I choose in any given moment. I am here to live, love, learn and laugh through my days, I am here to teach, support, give and grow as a person of the universe. It is my mission to make this world a healthier, happier place one person and one game at a time. We are all here to learn and support one another on our journeys.

A few years ago I had the amazing opportunity to participate in a year-long process of personal coaching through the Accomplishment Coaching program as a guest client. While I was in that monthly program, I learned the concept of Essence and Survival Mechanism — this made a big impression on me. What I learned is that we all have our special gifts, our essence — who we are when we are not living in fear. Our essence is our beauty, our shine, our special gifts that touch the world.

Our survival mechanism is what happens to us when we are in fear and fight or flight mode. We have our different ways of behaving during these emotional times, and it is usually not pretty. Our survival mechanism is what kicks in when we ‘feel’ threatened. The threat may or may not be real, and is often not, yet our perception of it is very real and we do whatever it takes to ‘survive’.

The beauty of knowing how we react when we ‘feel’ threatened is that we then have an awareness and are better equipped to make a different choice next time. And, the ability to choose a differnt path next time is where our power lies. Having the power to choose is the magic that makes our lives better and better.
