Success in anything is a result of a lot of hard, focused work. The same is true for a fit, healthy body. We need to put in the time and energy to maintain a robust and healthy body which ultimately involves a combination of activities for the best result.
According to American Council on Exercise:
Most adults could maintain substantial health benefits from 2 1/2 hours of weekly moderate-intensity exercise, such as brisk walking or gardening. For more physically fit adults, 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity, such as swimming laps, hiking uphill or race-walking can offer similar health benefits in half the time.
Research shows that even 10-minute bouts of heart-pumping activity are better than none at all. To build lean muscle mass and strengthen your bones, the experts recommend that adults also lift weights twice a week.
In addition to cardiovascular and strength training, it is also recommended to add balance training, flexibility, and stability movements to your workout for a well-rounded approach that is both strengthening and preventative for the long haul.
While striving for an optimal fitness training program it’s important to remember that you are an individual and these guidelines are very generalized. You must take into account your personal health history, capabilities and interest. For any fitness regime to be of benefit, it must be adhered to and that will only happen when you are truly committed, you find the value in the program and you derive some pleasure from the process. Find a selection of activities that are well suited to your body, your time, interest and are realistically achievable and you will realize the success that you desire.
