Unless you try to do something
beyond what you have already mastered,
you will never grow.
Today is the day for us to do something differently ~ try something new! It doesn’t matter what it is …
- a new type of exercise or sport
- a new food, recipe or method of cooking
- a new restaurant or item on the menu
- a fresh approach to an ongoing work issue
- a new strategy communicating with your spouse or children
It is vitally important for our personal growth that we try new things regularly, connect grey matter pathways and stimulate our curiosity through new experiences. Learning helps keep our brain active, brings us into contact with new people and relationships, and adds value to our lives in many intangible ways. Knowledge helps boost your confidence and self-reliance while opening the door for us in new areas of life.
There are many ways we can go about learning and improving the quality of our life; it’s just a matter of choice, time and availability. I keep a running list of things that I want to do, be and have ~ the Hot 100 ~ and honestly, sometimes I wonder if I will ever get to that item on the list that has been there for so long. But, I keep my list active, and sometimes it takes a while … I waited almost 15 years before I could reasonably organize myself to go to Culinary School. I attended a series of amateur classes long ago and knew this was something I wanted more of but the timing was all wrong, not to mention the money ~ very expensive … so, I waited. And, one day the opportunity presented itself, and I jumped on it and never looked back. The same is true for me with regards to SCUBA Diving, I knew I wanted to try it, and the classes never seemed to fit my schedule, so I waited. Then one day, ten years later, the door opened, and it was magically a good fit for my time and budget. And again, I jumped on it and never looked back ~ as a result, I have had the great opportunity to travel all over the world, meet lots of great people, make new friends and have vibrant experiences that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.
Those two experiences are just a couple that stands out for me when I think about learning new things, meeting new people, going new places and building the tremendous internal strength of character.
