Your Challenge Today:
Learn from yesterday and live for today!
By Bernadette Kathryn, LMT, IHLC
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.
The important thing is not to stop questioning.
~ Albert Einstein
Learning from the past is a great way to save time, energy and emotion. We all make mistakes, that is how we learn. Try new things and make mistakes, correct the error and practice to improve performance … it’s a winding road to success. An essential premise of this game is to “strive for progress” not perfection. Perfection is an illusion and trying to be perfect is a great way to keep yourself down because you will never achieve it.
Let’s look at our goals, assess our progress, learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow. If we take the attitude of a student and never be too big to ask questions and never know too much to learn something new, we will be open to change. Change is what leads us toward victory and success. Let’s face it, if we didn’t need or want to change something ~ we’d become stagnant.
The very definition of stagnant is:
- inactive, sluggish, slow-moving
- lethargic, static, flat, depressed
I don’t know about you, but the idea of becoming stagnant is not appealing to me, I like fresh! I love having a clean home, fresh food, fresh ideas, and a fresh approach to old ways. I like learning new things, going new places, meeting new people and having fun in new ways. I also love stability in my life; I think that’s important too. Creating an experience full of adventure yet balanced with confidence is my happy dance between the old and new.
Now, don’t get me wrong – I am not on the go, go, go all the time track. I do like to have some kind quality downtime. I love to snuggle on the sofa and watch a good TV show and movie. In fact, I have a running list of movies that I want to see, and I love to sleep in when I have the opportunity. One cannot live by being busy all the time. I need snuggle time, kitty time, reading time, HGTV, Food Network and The Voice – my guilty pleasures, among other things.

For sure; not being afraid or too jaded to try something new is important to me. And I can be guilty of that. Sometimes I even need to remind myself to do something “old” something I used to do that could work for me now, or be more exciting. I can definately fall into a rut of familiar. For now, incorporating my partner’s needs, family and scedule are the new challenge I’ve been embracing.
It’s so easy for all of us to fall into a ‘rut’ and forget to try new things — embracing your new life offers many new experiences for you that sounds like fun!
