Your Weekly Challenge:
Weight loss & sharing!
By Bernadette Kathryn, LMT, IHLC
“Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love…
friendship is never anything but sharing”
~ Elie Wiesel
A recent study from the University of South Carolina revealed that …
participants lost more weight when they used Twitter (or Facebook) frequently to communicate with others in the program. When you share your goals with your inner-circle (team) family and friends, you are putting yourself in the place of the most potential ~ setting yourself up for success by holding yourself accountable.
We all know friends and social support are crucial to losing weight and maintaining it. Social wellness is the basis of this game and when you share your goals and success with your team, you are setting the stage for your success. Since eating is often a social activity, you really benefit when you are sharing your meals with others that are committed to a Living Fit Lifestyle too.
The study put 96 overweight men and women in a weight-loss program that incorporated a smartphone or tablet. All participants listened to bi-weekly podcasts about weight loss and nutrition, but half also used Twitter and a diet-monitoring app. After six months, the “tweeps” who actively used the microblogging service for feedback from counselors and others lost more weight than the other group.
Even cooler, the tweet activity was measurable:
Every 10 posts corresponded to a half-percent more weight loss. Wow! Imagine that, measurable results from sharing through social media ~ every little bit helps! If you can accentuate your success through sharing, get with it, share with your family, friends, neighbors! We want you to succeed and we want to make this world a healthier, happier place, one game at a time!

I’ve roped in my whole daily so they monitor my progress. My boys ask me how many times I’ve refilled my water bottle when I pick them up from school and we’re all trying new recipes – and vegetables. Not a huge success but good to have company along this road.

I have learned to treat each day as a new chance to have success. It’s not so much about what happened the day before but taking the lessons learned and applying them.
Sharing meals and exercise with a friend is a GREAT way to keep on track ~ I really enjoy sharing food, recipes and exercise with friends whenever possible. It can serve to keep you on track or not depending on which friends it is ~ so my thoughts are to choose who, when, where and what wisely when it comes to sharing!
Since I love to eat so much, I do have to be careful …. mindful….
From T – awesome 4
I will try to but myself first.. its hard with 3 kids and a wife and 30 employees so I seem to come last. I really have to work on that.
For me being mindful at the start of my days and thinking about what I have to be grateful for have made me more positive generally and perhaps a bit softer around the edges:). Seeing some of my favorite friends this week has been wonderful and serve to remind me I have a lot to be grateful for.
I learned that getting support and being accountable are key ingredients for my success.
Also, this program really gives me helpful tools to self monitor and eat mindfully.
I so appreciate my friends, both old and new. I am lucky to have a few friends from childhood, one of them is my teammate on this journey! And it is so nice to really “get” each other. My goal this week will be to find at least one other go to sanctioned meal, as I am tiring of my usual. Will be turning to the cookbook!
