My Challenge Today:
Don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.
By Bernadette Kathryn, LMT, IHLC
When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached,
don’t adjust the goals,
adjust the action steps.
~ Confucius
We are coming to the conclusion of our 12 week game … and when working toward any goal in life, it is wise to evaluate your process and progress as you go along and adjust the actions steps as necessary. If you find that you are not moving toward your goal in the way you would like, the road you have chosen seems to be going the wrong direction, consult your map and adjust your course.
~ which is characterized by a tendency to judge harshly ~
this is not what we are after!
to gain insight into your efforts and initiatives to enable reflection of your current results
to assist in the identification of change needed to reach your goal
It is time again to consult your map, your blueprint for success, your ~ SMARTER GOALS ~ the week 1 challenge that we began our game with. If you find that you are a rockstar, well on your way to achieving all of your original goals, make some new ones! If you feel that you need to adjust your action steps, spend some time with yourself and/or your team and brainstorm ways to adjust your actions steps so that you can keep moving forward with your healthy living goals. If you feel you need more direction, drop HQ a line and ask for help!
If you find that you are right on target ~ everything is working well, you are moving right along with your SMARTER GOALS ~ perhaps it’s time for you to create a new challenge. Give yourself something new to work for, take your health to the next level… Revisit the Wheel of Health and find another area of your life that you might like to boost the energy. Nine areas of health to look at for inspiration — you choose where you want to invest your time and energy.
We are looking at nine areas of our Living Fit Lifestyle:
- Body
- Mind
- Spirit
- Home
- Love
- Work
- Money
- Community
- Education
The Guidelines for the Game of the game are focused on two specific areas of physical health — meals, movement, sleep, and water and attitude of gratitude. But, let’s not forget the other areas of our life that will either add to our overall wellness or detract from our health if they are not tended to in a meaningful way.

i am still working on my physical health goal but i DO need to adjust my exercise routine and my diet. due to pain i must find exercises that do not aggravate the pain and i need to be more careful with my food selections with my reduced caloric output. it is a constant challenge that needs frequent assessment and adjustment.
